Being able to speak more than one language is an asset that becomes more valuable every year. Learning a second language can help students develop a greater openness to and appreciation for other cultures. As students learn a foreign language they also learn about the people and countries where that language is spoken including history, traditions, and customs. This in turn broadens the student's global perspective. Through the study of another language, students can gain an understanding of the relationship between language and culture.
At Saint Andrew School, our students in grades 5 through 8 have Spanish language class once each week. In studying Spanish, our students will cultivate an attitude of acceptance and respect for other cultures. They will develop the self-confidence to communicate with others beyond our school. They will become familiar with the theory and tools of learning a new language. The students will learn how to listen to, speak, read, and write in Spanish (in a limited manner), setting the foundation for mastering Spanish in high school classes.¡Siempre hace sol, donde se habla español! (It's always sunny where Spanish is spoken!)
