Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas. ~Albert Einstein
Advanced Math classes in grades 6 through 8 challenge students to broaden their mathematical skills and logical thinking through problem-solving. At the end of the Advanced Math program our students are proficient in Algebra I and are encouraged to take the honors math placement test in their respective high schools.
To qualify for Advanced Math, a student must demonstrate above-average ability in quantitative reasoning. A final grade of 90 or above in fourth-grade math and Terra Nova scores in the 90th percentile are generally required. In cases in which the student has borderline grades, the teacher's recommendation and a Cognitive Skills Index (CSI) of 120 or above will be considered.
