Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas. ~Albert Einstein
Advanced Math classes in grades 5 through 8 challenge students to broaden mathematical skills and logical thinking through problem solving. At the end of the Advanced Math program our students are proficient in Algebra I and are encouraged to take the honors math placement test in their respective high schools.
To qualify for Advanced Math, a student must demonstrate above average ability in quantitative reasoning. A final grade of 90 or above in fourth grade math and Terra Nova scores in the 90th percentile are generally required. In cases in which the student has borderline grades, the teacher's recommendation and a Cognitive Skills Index (CSI) of 120 or above will be considered.
