The 5th-grade curriculum covers reading comprehension through short reading passages and novel studies. We will focus on reading a variety of genres, including realistic fiction, humorous writing, historical fiction, poetry, and different types of informational text. We will also work on spelling, vocabulary acquisition, grammar concepts, and speaking and listening. Students will write short reflections, paragraphs, constructed responses, and poetry. They will also write longer, more in-depth personal narratives, informational pieces, and persuasive essays during the year. The curriculum follows the guidelines established by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Office of Education.
